The Glasgow Distillery Company revived whisky-making in the city with its first still in 2015, continuing the legacy of the original Dundashill Distillery founded in 1770. Located in Hillington, the distillery emphasises traditional methods like slow distillation and long fermentation in copper pot stills using pure Loch Katrine water.
Glasgow 1770 The Original is double distilled using unpeated malted barley, matured in first‑fill ex‑bourbon casks, and finished for six months in virgin American oak. It’s a fresh, fruity Lowland-style single malt that reveals dried dark fruit with tropical undertones, biscuit, oak, and freshly cut grass on the nose. On the palate, expect sweet butterscotch and crème brûlée char, followed by pear, dried fig, honey, and creamy shortbread. The finish is long, with orange marmalade, nutmeg, woodiness, and a touch of spice.
